(Aunty, can I order a plate of chicken rice? My table is just over there. Erm...and I want black chicken(roasted chicken).) XD
Yep. That's about the conversation between hawker and me when I ordered chicken rice around three months back. Since that day, I realized that how important Mandarin is to me and how bad my pronunciation is starting to become. You see, many Chinese hawkers speak only cantonese, hokkien or mandarin (all these are Chinese dialects) and I only know mandarin because I went to a Chinese school.
So, no matter what, I have to hold on to some of my mandarin even though it is tough to study. I have no problem with conversing in mandarin it is just the Chinese grammar is getting harder the higher the level I go. So, in exams, I usually get a C in the Chinese paper =D. Some of my friends hate Chinese, and I kind of dislike it too. But at least they have other dialects to hold on to. I, however only have mandarin unless my parents teach hokkien or cantonese to me.
So, conclusion, mandarin is sometimes useful!!! XD
